Long stretches of soft sand set in natural surroundings, it’s unsurprising that the beaches of Cornwall are often voted among the best in the world and are a major reason people flock to the region. CLC Trenython Manor is a wonderful base from which to discover the Cornish coast, but, with over 300 beaches to choose from, often the biggest question is where to start? So, we’ve put our local knowledge to good use to compile this list of the top ten beaches in Cornwall:
For Surfers: Fistral Beach
Just west of Newquay, Fistral Beach is a favourite among surfers of all skill levels and is known as the ‘Home of British Surfing.’ It is also home to the Boardmasters festival which takes place every August, as well as the prestigious British National Surf Championships. A 45-minute drive from CLC World’s Cornwall resort, there are plenty of places to rent a board if you’re in the mood to catch a wave, or even get a little tuition.
For Artistic Flair: St Ives Harbour Beach
Just over 50 miles from CLC Trenython Manor, the pretty town of St Ives is known for its artistic community and picturesque setting and this harbourside beach provides a cool break from the cultural activities on offer. Families can swim in the sheltered coves and build sandcastles while enjoying a sweet treat from one of the beachfront ice-cream parlours.
For Families: Bude Beaches
An hour away from CLC Trenython Manor, the beaches of Bude are our top choice for a family day out. A spectacular stretch of coastline, the area is overflowing with lots of secret little coves to explore, pretty beach huts, and all the facilities you need, including showers, lifeguards, and plenty of places to pick up a famous Cornish pasty.
For Water Sports: Polzeath Beach
Polzeath, 45 minutes from CLC Trenython Manor, is renowned for its fantastic surf and attracts hordes of keen surfers to its shores each year. Even if you’re not keen to catch some waves, you can still appreciate the stunning coastline or maybe do a spot of rock pooling when the tide is out. Polzeath is also a dog-friendly beach from October to Easter, making it perfect for a game of fetch on the sand with your furry friend.
For Walkers: Watergate Bay Beach
Also on the north Cornish coast, 24 miles from the CLC World resort, Watergate Bay is one of the largest beaches in the county. The beach is well-known for its scenic coastal path which runs the entire length of the beach. It provides a stunning vantage point from which to view the incredible granite rock formations known as the Bedruthan Steps.
For Couples: Porthminster Beach
When the sun is shining, Porthminster Beach looks more like the French Riviera than a little stretch of Cornish coast found just over an hour away from CLC Trenython Manor. We know it’s a cliché, but you won’t be able to resist taking a romantic walk across the sand as the sun starts to set.
For Adventurers: Gwynver Beach
This sleepy cove near Penzance takes a little work to get to, but it’s more than worth it once you do. To reach the pure white sand, you’ll need to walk down a 15-minute coastal path from a cliff top car park but, on a clear day, you may even get to spot The Isles of Scilly on the horizon. Why not combine it with a day trip from our Cornwall holiday resort to Land’s End?
For Peace and Quiet: Porthluney Cove Beach
If a secluded beach is your idea of heaven, then this hidden treasure will be right up your street. Porthluney Cove is a privately-owned beach in front of Caerhays Castle where you can escape for a peaceful walk with the dog or even a sheltered bit of swimming on a warm day. This picture-perfect spot is only 40 minutes away from CLC Trenython Manor.
For DogLovers: Lansallos Beach
Lansallos Beach (or West Coombe as it is also known) is our top pick for those with furry friends, as it is dog-friendly all year round. Whilst it’s not the most well-known, we couldn’t help but include it in our list of the top ten beaches in Cornwall as we think it’s a hidden gem (particularly if you have four-legs!). It’s just over 30 minutes from CLC Trenython Manor.
For Photographers: Kynance Cove
Whether you’re a professional, keen amateur or just someone who loves to fill up their phone with snaps, Kynance is our top spot for a great shot. This rocky coastline is so unusual and precious that it’s well worth the hour-and-a-half journey from CLC Trenython Manor.
