There may be a few spring flowers making early appearances across the UK, but it´s still officially winter, and as we all know the weather can be temperamental. So if the temperature or snow falls, here are some winter activities to get you off the sofa!

Ice Skating

Indoor or outdoor you can strap on the skates and whizz around the ice, maybe throwing in a triple salchow or toe-loop! There´s plenty of opportunity for rofl (roll on floor laughing), literally – especially if you try the aforementioned moves. Ice skating also provides on-going opportunities to wear that Christmas jumper or the funky bobble hat your grandma got you, for a few more months.

Have you ever had the urge to slide a heavy stone along the ice and then yell at the top of your voice at team mates to sweep? Well, curling offers you the chance to do just that. Known as the “Roaring Game” you can give vent and there´s yet another chance for you to wear your Christmas pullover.

CLC Duchally Country Estate in Perthshire is within a stone´s slide of some of the area´s dozens of curling clubs. Set in acres of private parkland it also offers excellent walking and is close to a host of golf courses for when you´ve lost your voice from all that roaring.

Horse-drawn Sleigh Ride

Think Dr Zhivago and romance and you´ll probably conjure up the image of a couple in love huddled up in a horse-drawn sleigh – and it is a wonderfully romantic thing to do. It´s also a great family event, riding through the wintery landscape, taking in your surroundings.

To have this memorable experience, pop over to Austria and CLC Alpine Centre, where this is just one of many winter activities you can enjoy. Trotting through the snow with a view of the Salzburger mountains is memorable and team that with a visit to an inn and a mug of grog and it will be unforgettable.

Snowshoe Walking

If you have the urge to go walking across the deep snow there´s good news – you no longer have to strap what look like old tennis racquets to your feet! The modern snowshoes are a lot funkier looking and made of aluminium or lightweight materials.

There´s the added benefit that snowshoeing is great for burning off the extra calories from winter comfort eating. Along with the cardio element it helps build endurance, balance and agility. Whether you´re at a CLC World resort in Scotland or Austria, head for the snow!

No winter activity list is complete without skiing. No matter what your age or skill level, Austria and Scotland have the slopes for you. Whether you want to take your time curving down the mountain or speed down red, blue and black runs, both destinations can cater for your needs.
