Boasting a stimulating ‘downtown’ with quirky shops, art galleries, museums and possibly the best lobster rolls in the world, this vibrant town is located on the site of the Mayflower’s landing in 1620.

Lively nightclubs, live entertainment venues and specialty shops are clustered around the main hub – Commercial Street. Home to some of the highest numbers of humpback whales in the USA, Provincetown offers a wealth of attractions and experiences for even the most intrepid traveller.

Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag and smile, smile, smile in this fun town. Packed with energetic street entertainers, colourful parades and cool shops, Baltimore will charm your socks off, without hitting you too hard in the pocket.

Explore the historic waterfront village of Fell’s Point, the oldest part of town, which is home to over 120 vibrant pubs and some of the finest crab and seafood joints on the east coast. The charming cobblestone streets along the harbour and main square are lined with quaint wineries, independent boutiques and the Frederick Douglass-Isaac Myers Maritime Park Museum, which was the first African American-owned shipyard in the USA.

Portsmouth, New Hampshire

Home to the country’s first naval shipyard, Portsmouth’s maritime roots are similar to those of its namesake in the UK. Located at the mouth of the Piscataqua River, this thriving town may only have 20,000 residents but boasts outsized appeal for visitors.

Soak up the history of the town by strolling along the harbour or hopping on a cruise. Established in 1623, many of the town’s 17th century buildings are still standing and open to the public. For relaxing moments, wander through Prescott Park, home to a beautiful flower garden and a pier that extends into the river. The Music Hall, the region’s leading concert venue, is the place to be for some evening fun.

Golfers can practice their swing at over 100 golf courses and adrenalin-junkies will find water sports galore along the beach.
